Bloggers to Follow in 2017

One of the best things about blogging is the community. We always try to support each other and look out for each other. Unfortunately, this can be used negatively. If you've been following Twitter recently, you'll be aware of all the drama that went on at the end of last week. It caused friction in the blogging world and several bloggers resorted to bullying in the process. While it's good to stick together, we shouldn't bring others down. It's important to remember that there are some amazing bloggers out there, who inspire the rest of us and don't get involved in all of the drama. Here are some of the bloggers you should follow this year:

 

 

1. Vix Meldrew

 

Vix Meldrew is known as the 'dating guru' of the blogging world, and the fact that she was featured in Blogosphere Magazine recently just shows how successful she is. Her posts are so funny and relatable, as well as honest.

 

 

2. Brogan Tate

 

With her girl-next-door vibes, it's no wonder Brogan is a multi-award-winning blogger. Oh, and did I mention she's a vlogger too?! This girl is seriously talented! If you haven't already checked out her blog and YouTube, I suggest you do so now!

 

 

3. Hello Miss Jordan

 

I previously expressed my love for Jordan's blog in my Blogs I Love #2 post. She is undeniably one of the queens of blogging! I adore her style and her writing is beautiful! The pics on her blog are absolutely amazing too!

 

 

4. Whatshedid

 

I love Beth's makeup tutorials. Her looks are so unique and creative. Defo check out Beth's Instagram, especially if you need some new makeup inspo.

 

 

5. Thumbelina Lillie

 

I discovered Megan's blog almost a year ago while scrolling through Twitter and it has since become one of the blogs I visit on a regular basis. Megan is down to earth and her posts are full of positivity. I always enjoy reading her blog.

 

 

6. Poppies in October

 

Poppies in October is another blog you should follow in 2017. Erin is so adorable and I love her posts about Gilmore Girls. This is definitely a blog to watch in 2017.

 

 

7. Dorkface

 

I'm sure you've heard of Jemma Dorkface. Her blog is ABSOLUTE GOALS! It's so aesthetically pleasing and she does some amazing designs over on Etsy.

 

 

8. Poppy Loves

 

If you're ever in London and need somewhere for brunch or afternoon tea, head over to Poppy Loves for some ideas. You won't be disappointed. Her blog is full of pics of delicious cakes and other mouth-watering food. Poppy also writes about music, art and home. It's basically like an online magazine.

 

 

Other bloggers worth mentioning are Kayleigh Zara, Cattitude and Co, Sophie Rosie, See the Stars, Becca Jayne and Carpe Diem Emmie. And if you need some smaller bloggers to follow, I'd recommend checking out Food and Baker, Emilyy Becca, Martha Jane Edwards, Simply Abbi, Naomi Rowan and Me, Cupcakes and Tea.

Favourite Christmas Films

Hey guys!

 

I can't believe Christmas is only two days away! I can't wait! I'm really looking forward to spending time with my family, exchanging presents, and of course watching lots of Christmas films! Which brings me onto the topic for this blog post.

 

One of the best things about Christmas is cosying up on the sofa with a mug of hot chocolate (or fruit tea, but please no coffee) and binging on festive films. Overall, they're really uplifting and will put a smile on your face. I personally tend to stick to the same movies around this time of year - there's something about Christmas films that makes them so rewatchable. There are 6 films that really stand out, and I've written why I love them so much below:

 

 

1. Home Alone

Home Alone is a film I always watch around Christmas time. It's hilarious and never fails to make me laugh, even though I've seen it several times. It's a classic Christmas film and Macaulay Culkin's character Kevin is so smart and cute. I also love the setting. I've never been to New York, let alone at Christmas, but it sure does look amazing!

 

2. How the Grinch Stole Christmas

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is another favourite Christmas film of mine. I've loved it since I was a kid (although I haven't seen it nearly as much as Home Alone). Jim Carrey is perfect for the role of the Grinch, and Taylor Momsen is adorable as Cindy Lou. I still can't believe that's her!

 

 

3. Gremlins
 

 I love Gremlins. I could watch it over and over again. I always wanted a pet mogwai, especially one like Gizmo! He is so so so adorable (until he touches water, of course)! Gremlins can be described as a horror-comedy, but it's not scary at all. All the mischief the mogwai get up to is completely hilarious!

 

4. The Holiday

I only saw this film for the first time last Christmas, but it's definitely one I'd watch again. Jack Black, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Cameron Diaz are four of my absolute faves, and I love the idea of a house swap. The Holiday is also the kind of film you can watch at any time of year.

 

5. Love Actually

Love Actually is a film you hear every blogger rave about and it's not surprising. The film is hilarious and has an all-star cast, which includes Julia Roberts, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Rowan Atkinson and Keira Knightly. I like how the stories of several different characters are interconnected and explore every aspect of love. I particularly love the story with  Sam (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) and Joanna (Olivia Olsen). It's such a feel-good movie.

 

 

6. Frozen

Okay, so I know Frozen isn't a Christmas film per se, but it's still worth mentioning. With it's snowy setting and catchy soundtrack, watching Frozen always gets me in the festive mood, and it's the kind of film I wouldn't be embarrassed to watch with the rest of my family (pretty much everything makes me embarrassed). I love how independent Elsa is, and Anna is so determined. Olaf is adorable too!


And here are the ones I need to rewatch (1-7) / watch for the first time (8-14):

 I recently watched Happy Christmas, when I had some spare time last week. It was alright, and I love Anna Kendrick, but it wasn't nearly as good as the films in this post!

My Favourite Blogger Tools

 

 

 

Hey guys!

 

 

As a blogger, it is essential that you install certain plugins and apps to help grow your blog. These will increase your productivity and optimise your blog for search engines. I'm sure you've heard about SEO - it seems to always be drilled into us bloggers.

 

 

When I first started my blog in my first year of uni, I wasn't aware of these blogging tools. However, I soon started to use them, and they have basically become my lifesaver. I use them all the time to ensure that my blog is always up to scratch.

 

 

There are so many blogging tools out there, so how can you possibly choose which ones to use? Well, hopefully this list of my favourite blogging tools will make your decision much easier.

 

 

1. Buffer

 

Buffer is amazing if you want to post several tweets about your blog during the day but won't have time / access to the internet. With Buffer, you can write a tweet and schedule it to a time that suits you. Buffer also allows you to schedule posts on Facebook, although I have yet to use this feature. One other brilliant thing about Buffer is that it shows you how well a post has done - this is in terms of the likes, shares, comments and retweets the post has got.

 

 

2. PicMonkey

 

PicMonkey is my go-to website for editing photos and creating collages. It's so simple to use, but it can take a long time to load on my laptop! Nevertheless, PicMonkey does has some great features and I'd recommend using it if you don't want to fork out for Photoshop. Alternatives to PicMonkey include BeFunky, LunaPic and Canva. The latter is great for creating visuals and specific designs for your blog.

 

 

3. Social Media

 

I don't know what I would do without social media - it has helped my blog so much! Not only do websites like Twitter and Facebook enable you to promote your blog, but they are also a great way of networking with brands and connecting with other bloggers. There are several groups on Facebook with threads for sharing posts and commenting on other people's blogs. My faves are UK Bloggers and Bloggers Helping Each Other - I'd recommend these to smaller bloggers who want to build up their views and increase awareness of their blog.

 

 

4. Keyword Tool

 

I have just started using Keyword Tool this week and it has helped me find keywords to use in each blog post. Moz has a good guide on how to use keywords in your blog.

 

 

5. My camera

 

I could not live without my camera! I have a Canon SLR and it produces such fantastic photos! They are such great quality and so clear. I don't just use my camera for blog pics - I regularly go on photo trips around London and I used it when I studied Photography at A Level. I bought it back in 2014 and it's still usable.

 

 

6. My iPhone & Laptop

 

Both my iPhone and laptop make blogging so much easier. I also use my iPhone for taking photos, as well as keeping up to date with social media, checking my emails, posting pics on Instagram, and making notes when I'm out and about. My laptop is where I upload posts and edit photos. It's quite heavy so I can't really take it out with me.

Blogs I Love #2

 

 

Hey guys!

 

 

How has your week been? I've been doing my internship at Student and Graduate Publishing, applying to jobs, and hitting the gym. On Monday I went to my third blogger event - Gremlins 2 was being shown at the London Warner Brother's Studio so I went along as I hadn't seen the film before. It was very silly, but Gizmo is the cutest! I also went to see Miranda Hart perform at the London Palladium last night. Miranda is so so so hilarious, and she was joined by Mel Giedroyc from the Great British Bake Off. Miranda's dog, who is so so so adorable, also made an appearance! I did try to take a photo but I was sitting at a bit of a weird angle so it didn't really come out as well as I'd expected! So here's a pic of Miranda and her dog Peggy taken from The Times:

 On to today's post...

A while ago I did a post dedicated to 6 blogs I love. Well, since I've been reading many other blogs recently, I thought I'd add some more to the list.

For me, reading blogs is one of the best things about being a blogger. It's a great way of connecting with likeminded people, and finding out about new things, whether that's a restaurant, book, TV show, or travel destination. During my two and a half (ish) years of (officially) blogging, I have discovered hundreds of blogs, and certain ones stand out more than the rest. I have written about these below, so you can check them out if you wish.

 

1. Very Berry Cosmo

 

  

I first discovered Kayleigh's lovely blog about a year ago, and it's quickly become one of my favourites. Kayleigh's blog is so relatable and well-thought-out. It's clear that she puts a lot of effort into creating every post. I love Kayleigh's post about The Alchemist, a cocktail bar in Leeds. Don't the cocktails look amazing?! I definitely need to stop by it if I'm ever in Leeds. If you're thinking about joining Tinder but unsure whether it'll work or not, why not check out Kayleigh's success story?

 

 

2. Robowecop

  

 Rhianna is a lifestyle blogger from Leeds. She blogs about a whole range of things, including food, beauty and fashion. Rhianna describes her blog as "a place where you [can] come and feel like you're talking to a friend." I can definitely agree with that. Check out Rhianna's post about the 7 ways we are all like Bridget Jones.

 

 

3. Absolutely Lucy

Absolutely Lucy is one of the best blogs to turn to if you're looking for travel inspiration. Lucy lived in Australia for a while and has recently come back from a trip around Europe (and she's now back in Australia for another year or so!). She visited Santorini, Amsterdam and Slovenia (which, by the way, looks absolutely stunning), to name just a few. Lucy seems like a genuinely nice person and this shows through her posts.

 

 

4. Hello Miss Jordan

I fell in love with Jordan's blog the moment I set eyes on it. I adore her outfit posts, particularly her Fields of Purple and The Pastel Parisian ones. She always seems to look so amazing, no matter what she's wearing! The pictures on this blog are so clear and colourful - Jordan must spend ages editing them. If you love afternoon tea, it's worth checking out Jordan's The Tea Files.

 

 

5. Nettle and Blackberry

Another blogger I love is Imii, a.k.a. Nettle and Blackberry. I've only started reading her blog the last few weeks but I enjoy her restaurant reviews (I need to visit Cutter and Squidge!) and posts about Paris - I'm so jealous that she got to live there for 10 months! If you love Nettle and Blackberry as much as I do, you should check out Imii's Instagram.

 

6. Simply Alexandra

Last but not least is Simply Alexandra. This blog is a little different to the others on this list in that it is written by an American blogger - the rest are all British. Simply Alexandra is a great place for finding out about new books, discovering new music and looking at beautiful photos of America.

Yes, I know I included 'Let It Go'. I loved it at first, and then it got a bit annoying since it was played so much, but I do love Idina Menzel's voice, and Demi Lovato's version is incredible too! I've loved the songs I've included from 'The Sound Of Music', 'Grease', 'The Little Mermaid', ' The Wizard Of Oz', 'Pocahontas' and 'Aladdin' since I was like 5! I can pretty much recite the lyrics to all of these songs, particularly 'Over the Rainbow', 'Once Upon a Dream' and 'Hopelessly Devoted to You'.

 

Of course, there are so many other songs I could've included on here, such as those from 'The Lion King', 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Mary Poppins', some of my favourite Disney movies. I definitely need to sit down and rewatch these films and musicals!

8 Films I'll Always Rewatch



Hey guys!

 

 

How are you all? Today I am going to share with you some of my favourite films that I'll will always be able to rewatch.

 

 

I love watching films. There is something so comforting about snuggling under my duvet with my laptop and a tub of Ben and Jerry's (cookie dough, of course). While I do love finding new films - especially ones that not many people have heard of - it is sometimes nice to watch a film I'm familiar with. I'll often find that there are way too many films to choose from on Netflix so I'll end up watching something I've already seen before. Although this does mean that I know what happens, there are some films that I can watch over and over again and not get bored of them. These tend to be musicals, childhood classics, teen movies and Christmas films. There are eight films that really stand out.

 

 

1. Matilda  



Film Forum

 

This is one of the first films I ever saw, and I'm pretty sure I've watched it at least 10 times since. I know, crazy! It's such a heart-warming film, and Matilda and Miss Honey are my favourite my favourite characters. I always wanted a teacher like Miss Honey. I love the fact that Matilda can move objects just by looking at them - and she's so brave. I'd definitely say that Matilda is one of the best films of my childhood.

 

 

2. The Sound of Music 

The Sound of Music

 

The Sound of Music is another film I have watched numerous times. I love the songs (especially My Favourite Things and Sixteen Going On Seventeen), and the setting is beautiful. The interior of the house is stunning too. Julie Andrews is perfect for the role of Maria. She is so energetic and has an amazing voice. The Sound of Music is a timeless classic and I'm sure people (including me) will still be watching it in years to come.

3. School of Rock

School of Rock is one of my most favourite films of my lifetime. Jack Black is hilarious, and the kids are great. I love Miranda Cosgrove's character. I also like the soundtrack, even though I'm not really a fan of rock music.

 

 

4. Home Alone 



Mental Floss

 

Home Alone is the ultimate Christmas film. It features a cute kid (played by Macaulay Culkin), hilarious villains and memorable lines (e.g. 'Keep the change, ya filthy animal'). I also love the setting of the second film - New York looks so magical at Christmas. I pretty much watch either Home Alone or Home Alone 2: Lost in New York every Christmas. It has me in fits of laughter every time.

 

 

5. Clueless 

The Daily Beast

 

Clueless is undeniably one of the best teen films. The fashion is great (I've always lusted after Cher's wardrobe) and there are so many quotable lines. While Cher is shallow, she is still a likeable character. For those of you who may not be familiar with Clueless, it's based on Jane Austen's Emma. Alicia Silverstone portrays Cher, an attractive and wealthy teen who lives with her father in Beverly Hills. When Tai Fraser moves to her school, Cher teams up with her best friend Dionne and they decide to give Tai a makeover in order to make her more popular. After failing to set up Tai with Elton, Cher begins to focus on her own love life, soon realising that the guy she likes was right in front of her the whole time.

 

 

6. 10 Things I Hate About You 



College Candy

 

I only discovered this film five or six years ago, but it quickly became one of my favourite films. I've watched it at least three times since. 10 Things I Hate About You is such a quotable films - and it stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. What more could you want?!

 

 

7. A Cinderella Story

A Cinderella Story was released in 2004, twelve years ago! Hilary Duff plays Sam, the 'Cinderella' character, while Chad Michael Murray is her love interest. In this updated version of Cinderella, the protagonist lives with her 'evil' stepmother, who is obsessed with Botox, and her 'ugly' stepsisters Brianna and Gabriella. Sam uses a school chatroom to escape her unfortunate life and meets Nomad609, who turns out to be Austin, the most popular guy at her school. Once Brianna and Gabriella find out, they are determined to humiliate Sam in order to ruin her chances of being with Austin. Fortunately, their plan backfires and Sam ends up with the happy ending she deserves.

 

 

8. Mean Girls 



Trouble With Film

 

How could I not include this?! Okay, it is full of clichés, but it is an absolute must-see for any teenage girl. Even though Mean Girls was released over ten years ago, it is still so relatable - two of the major themes in the film are relationships and bullying. The cast is brilliant too - it includes Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried (as the ditzy Karen), Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

What I Love About London

Hey guys!

I thought I'd share with you my favourite things about London, the city I have lived in for my whole life.

1. Camden

For some reason, I rarely went to Camden while I was a teenager (even though I live so close), but now I go nearly all the time! I love the stalls - they have so many nice things. Camden is also great for taking photos; you can find unusual people walking around the market.

2. The food

There is an abundance of places to eat in London. You can find food from all over the world within a half-hour walk (or less, depending on where you live). It's such a diverse city and there is food from Italy, Spain, Africa, America, China, and many more countries.

3. The parks

 

According to Buzzfeed, "London has more green space than any other major city on earth." Whilst I wouldn't know if this was accurate or not, it is true that London is such a green city. There are thousands of trees all over the city and plenty of grass. Growing up, I spent hours at the park. Hampstead Heath was literally around the corner from my house for ten years, while I played sports at Regents Park during secondary school and hung out with friends at Hyde Park during college.

4. Oxford Street

I literally go to Oxford Street twice a week when I'm in London. It's like my second home! I can spend ages wandering round the shops, especially Selfridges. I always seem to end up in the Food Court (though I don't buy things every time. I promise). The shoe department is definitely worth a visit too!

5. Travel
 One thing I love about London is the fact that it's so easy to travel everywhere. You can literally turn up to an airport, book a flight, and be at your destination within 24 hours. The tube is great too - it makes getting around London so convenient. On the flipside, I'm not keen on the cost. And the crowds! It's particularly a nightmare during summer when everyone tries to cram onto the train at rush hour even though they can easily wait for the next train!

6. Art

 I love looking at art in London! There are so many exhibitions and galleries and they're constantly changing so you can always find something new to browse!

Today's post will be about the best films I've watched this year. So, here they are:

1. Cinderella

 

Cinderella is my favourite fairy tale, and this version was amazing. I love the costumes, and Lily James is amazing!

2. Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2

 

Such a fantastic ending to the films! So sad it's over :(

3. Inside Out

 

This film is so cute, and it made me cry!

4. Jurassic World

 

The effects are amazing! So realistic!

5. Ever After: A Cinderella Story

 

Another amazing retelling of Cinderella. If you love fairy tales, you definitely have to watch this!

6. Finding Neverland

 

Simply amazing!

7. Blue Lagoon

 

Brilliant film!

8. Soul Surfer

 

Such an inspirational film!

As always, there are lots of films I didn't get round to watching this year, such as Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (need to read the book first!), Pan, Fantastic Four, Tomorrowland: A World Beyond, The Longest Ride and The Diary of a Teenage Girl.

Blogs I Love

Hey guys!

As I spend a lot of time reading blogs, I thought that I'd share some of my favourite ones with you. These are a mixture of lifestyle, travel and food blogs.

1.  Poppy Loves- Poppy Loves is one of my favourite blogs. I love reading about all the wonderful

places in London that Poppy has visited. Her afternoon tea posts always make me hungry and crave cake! Just look at the meringues! Poppy has some great tips for bloggers too! And don't even get me started on how fabulous Poppy's photography is!

2. Pam Scalfi- Another blog I love! I've been reading Pam's blog for over half a year and I enjoy her outfit posts. Don't you just love this necklace?!

 

3. World of Wanderlust - I probably shouldn't be reading travel blogs as there are so many fantastic places I want to visit (some of which I mentioned in my Top Five Countries I'd Love to Visit post) and it's just not possible at the moment, but a girl can dream! Definitely check out the city guides if you're planning on visiting some of these places.

4. Sprinkle Bakes - This blog is really cake lover's paradise! This Jane Austen cake is too perfect to eat!

5. Fine and Dandy - I just need to visit a cat cafe ASAP! It's such a brilliant idea! And I definitely have to make some strawberries and cream cupcakes! Yummy!

 

 

 

 

6. A Yellow Brick Blog - If you love Disney (and let's face it, who doesn't?!), this blog is the one to read! I love Kirstie's regular Disney Wishlists- they're so cute!

What I Love About Autumn and Winter

 

Hey guys!


Before beginning this post, I thought I'd just mention that I'm not the biggest fan of Autumn and Winter. Now I know that's strange, considering the title of this post, but don't get me wrong, there are still a few things I do like about this time of year. What I'm not so keen on, however, is the cold weather. Being a naturally cold weather, the 10+ months of rain, wind and cold we get in England is not ideal. I long for the warm weather. Anyway, this post is not about summer, it's about Autumn and Winter. So, without further ado, here are some things I like about these two seasons:


1. Hot chocolate

I'm more of a hot chocolate drinker than a tea or coffee drinker. However, I don't think it's socially acceptable to drink hot chocolate when it's warm inside. At least in Autumn and Winter I can get away with drinking it! I love topping my hot chocolate with marshmallows - it becomes just that little bit sweeter. Funnily enough, I tend to stick to the milk chocolate variety as although I love white chocolate, I find it a bit sickly in drink form.


2. Jumpers

I love jumpers! Though, to be honest, I don't have nearly enough! The great thing about jumper is that they pretty much go with anything, and you can just throw them on over a vest top and wear with jeans or a skirt. Simples!


3. Leaves crunching beneath your feet

Isn't it just so satisfying?! Autumn leaves are so beautiful too.


4. Halloween

I haven't really had a "big" Halloween as such since I was in primary school, but it's still one of my most favourite days (or rather nights) of the year. I love dressing up (though I'm kinda boring and nearly always go as a witch) and there's always a good selection of films to watch on TV. Addams Family is my fave - it's so funny! Maybe I'll dress up as Wednesday this year, we'll see!


5. Christmas

How could I not include this?! Christmas is undoubtedly my most favourite time of the year. I love the food, the presents, the carols, the shop windows...and Winter Wonderland. This place is just incredible! I've been there at least ten times during the last four years! Here's a link to the photos I took at Winter Wonderland last year: Hyde Park and Winter Wonderland. There are also some brilliant Christmas films, such as Miracle on 34th Street, Home Alone and Gremlins.


6. My birthday

 

My birthday is in January, so of course that is another thing I love about Winter. I'll be 22 on my upcoming birthday! Ah, scary!! I'll be able to sing Taylor Swift all day!!

Crazy how Nelly appears in one of my favourite songs.

It's a beautiful song. Hehe

 

 

5. Wonderwall - Oasis

 

 

I only really discovered this song about ten years ago, when a girl sang this for the end of term concert at secondary school. I loved it straightaway.

I've loved this song since I was around 8 or something.
